Spiders
Spiders are arachnids that feed on small creatures and may settle in quiet corners; repeated indoor sightings can unsettle occupants.

Spiders are arachnids, not insects, and most live outdoors where they help feed on other small creatures. They may enter homes and compounds through openings or arrive with items brought inside, then settle in quiet corners, stores, roof spaces or sheltered areas. Webs, egg sacs or an occasional spider can occur in places that are not often disturbed. Appearance alone is not always enough to identify a species reliably, so avoid handling an unfamiliar spider. In Accra's warm climate, a range of spiders may be encountered indoors and outside, particularly where insects and sheltered habitat are available.
Most spider sightings do not mean that a property has a serious infestation, but webs and repeated indoor activity can be unsettling. A bite is uncommon, though contact with an unfamiliar spider should be avoided and a medical professional should assess any concerning symptoms. Crepps can inspect where spiders are seen, consider entry points and look at whether other insects are supporting their presence. The response is based on identification and the level of activity, with proofing, housekeeping and monitoring considered before any targeted treatment. Where a spider is found, a clear photograph from a safe distance can help with identification.
Signs
You may notice spiders themselves, webs in corners or ceiling spaces, or small egg sacs in sheltered places. Occasional sightings can be different from repeated activity across several rooms. Avoid touching a spider or web if you cannot identify it confidently.
Why it matters
Most spiders are not a cause for alarm, but webs and unexpected sightings can make rooms uncomfortable. Some species may bite if trapped or handled, so avoid direct contact with unfamiliar spiders. Correct identification helps decide whether any action is needed.
The IPM approach
We inspect where spiders and webs are found, identify them where possible and check for entry points or insects that may attract them. The plan may include proofing, reducing harbourage and monitoring. Targeted treatment is considered only where activity and identification show it is needed.
Prevention
Reduce clutter in storage areas, remove webs when safe and seal gaps around doors, windows and service openings. Keep window screens in good repair and reduce insects around lights where practical. Do not handle unfamiliar spiders, and contact us if sightings are frequent.
