Flour beetles
Flour beetles are small insects associated with flour and other dry goods; activity in cupboards can make provisions unsuitable to keep.

Flour beetles are small, reddish-brown beetles associated with stored dry foods, including flour and grain products. You may notice adults crawling in a kitchen cupboard, around a food container or on a storeroom shelf. Finding beetles away from the package does not by itself show where the infestation began, so nearby foods and storage areas should also be checked. The surrounding shelves and any open food packages are useful places to check during an inspection.
Infested provisions may no longer be suitable to keep, and activity can continue if the source is missed. Crepps starts by inspecting and identifying the pest, then looks for affected food and conditions that allow it to persist. The IPM plan prioritises hygiene, sealed storage and monitoring, with targeted treatment only where needed. Fumigation is considered only when other methods will not control the problem.
Signs
Look for small, reddish-brown beetles in flour, grain products or nearby cupboards. Check packages for live insects, damaged contents or fine food debris. Beetles on shelves or window sills can also be a reason to inspect stored goods close by.
Why it matters
Flour beetles are a common stored-product pest. When they infest flour or other dry provisions, the affected food may need to be discarded. Finding and addressing the source helps prevent activity from continuing among goods in the kitchen or storeroom.
The IPM approach
We inspect the storage area and identify the beetle, then check food packages and shelves to locate the source. The plan includes removing infested food, cleaning and improving storage, followed by monitoring. We use targeted treatment only where needed. Fumigation is used only when other methods will not control the problem.
Prevention
Keep kitchen and storeroom shelves clean and free of spilled flour or crumbs. Check food packages before storing them and transfer dry provisions to clean, tightly sealed containers. Use older supplies first, and discard any food found to be infested.
